Ohio Soybean Association Interests Supported at Commodity Classic

Farmer leaders from the Ohio Soybean Association (OSA) successfully advanced critical policy positions at the American Soybean Association (ASA) Voting Delegate Session during the 2026 Commodity Classic in San Antonio, TX. Delegates from across the country overwhelmingly supported two Ohio-led proposals aimed at building new domestic demand for soy bioproducts.
One OSA resolution that was approved addressed the expansion of Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) pathways to include all viable renewable diesel and biodiesel coproducts produced using domestic soy-based feedstocks. Recognizing the full worth of soy-based renewable fuel coproducts, like naphtha and liquid propane gas, will increase the overall value of soy-based biofuels.
Another Ohio-led resolution supports federal, state, and local transportation improvement project specifications to allow biobased contractors to bid on projects, provided they meet established performance requirements. Historically, bid requirement specifications have precluded soy-based bioproducts in favor of petroleum-based products, even when their performance is the same.
“These policy wins will go a long way in creating new, diverse market opportunities for Ohio soybeans,” said OSA President and Pickaway County farmer Bennett Musselman. “By making the most of our soy-based products and coproducts, we can build strong domestic demand for our product here at home.”
Farmer delegates from Ohio included Dustin Converse (Union County), Trish Cunningham (Union County), Dave Green (Crawford County), Matt Lutz (Crawford County), Jeff Magyar (Ashtabula County), Bennett Musselman (Pickaway County), Ryan Rhoades (Marion County), Bob Suver (Clark County), Adam Vonderhaar (Preble County), and Jennifer Wilson-Oechsle (Van Wert County).
